Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center

Itasca State Park, Minnesota

The center serves visitors at the Headwaters of the Mississippi River. Space is provided for exhibits, food service, dining and gift sales.
Size: 6,150 square feet (interior); 3,328 square feet (sheltered).

Sustainable Design Strategies: reduced parking, built on previously impacted site, native plantings, rain gardens, substantial amount of fsc-certified wood, biocomposite board, and recycled materials, highly efficient lighting system and high-performance thermal envelope.
